18 April: 4Scott - A Celebration of the life of Scott Piering, The Scala, London
Set List: Babies, Something Changed, Bad Cover Version, Underwear, Sunrise
The gig was put together by David Steele (boss of V2 records) and
Danny O'Connor (Radio 1's senior music journalist). As Danny explains,
"The idea is simple. Take a host of artists you wouldn't dream of
putting in such a small club. Ask them to do stuff that you wouldn't dream
of asking them and create a total one-off. Scott was full of music, dry
wit and laughter. This
is a great way of raising a glass to him. This night is to celebrate his
success and leave a lasting memorial to a truly unique man."
Pulp were ace of course, playing to a packed and sweaty Scala, coming on
at midnight after the grim spectacle of the Stereophonics covering Beatles
songs (just be glad you weren't there). They were given a glowing
introduction by Geoff Travis of Rough Trade Records, and played just 5
songs: . Don't know how many of you were there but there was definitely a
group of hardcore (or very drunk) fans getting down to it in the middle.
If you were there, let me know what you thought. There's a review in
Saturday's Times and on nme.com
