Just been listening to a
recording of this show and the version of Common People is especially
strange..unless it's the recording equipment! Very quiet crowd, at least,
it took them a while to get going, and I think this affected the mood of
the group slightly... Here are some photos from MTV to give you the Nick
and Candida eye view from the stage...
It's been less than a month since Steven Spielberg´s last movie's premiere in the USA. It's titled "A I" (Artificial Intelligence) and tries to answer all the eternal unsolved questions: Who are we? Where do we come from? Can a machine have feelings? The replicant Jarvis Cocker has the answer.
When Jarvis Cocker jumped
out at Benicassim's green scenery at 2:00 am, the borderlines between
reality and fiction got defined. The band attacked with their musical hymn
"Common People" (a criticised solution for those who don't know
about spontaneity or creation "in situ" that only great bands as
PULP can make from the first guitar chord) and the essential musical charm
for Jarv to get a meteoric communication with the public appeared. And
reality kept on prevailing , so much he took of his shoes and with bare
hands and feet he sang all the songs the audience expected: FEELING CALLED
LOVE, A LITTLE SOUL, PARTY HARD... with his peculiar way of walking on
stage. Of course we could listen to some songs that will be the highlights
from their next and expected album: BIRDS IN THE GARDEN or TREES... that,
with a little luck we'll have in our hands in autumn...
Now you know it!! The
machine is at it again. Where does it come from? From the musical
universe, of course. Where is it heading to? Wherever it wants to,
obviously. As for PULP, they're determined to stay on your own home's
garage, in an intelligent way, and not artificial at all. (Victor Martín)
(not quite sure what Victor is on about here, but I think he had a good time...-Ed.)
