August 3: The Sziget Festival, Budapest

Set List: Sorted for E's & Wizz / Laughing Boy / Weeds / Bad Cover Version / Birds in your Garden Live Bed Show / Help the Aged / This is Hardcore / I Love Life / Sunrise / Trees / I Want You / Babies / Underwear / Common People

This is just a quick note to let you know that the whole day and the concert was GREAT, Pulp treated us with a fabulous selection of songs. They started off with Sorted, then Laughing Boy, then I lost counting, but they played I Want You, Babies, Live Bed Show, Underwear, Common People - the weird electro starting one as the last song, Help the Aged, This is Hardcore (I was SO glad they didn't drop this), Weeds (which I have to admit I dislike on the CD but was fabulous and much more powerful here!), The Trees (as encore no 2. yes, they didn't drop that one, thank God), I Love Life, Birds, Bad Cover Version and Sunrise (of course - this was SO good live, at the end they formed a sun shape from the yellow lights, if I was not wrong, and it was a magnificent view!!). This was MORE THAN I WOULD HAVE EVER DREAMT OF! Pulp did their VERY best. (Kristof)

Pulp were great, Jarvis fantastic, he played really with heart and hand. I can say sincerely it was the best concert in the 10 years history of "Sziget" festival. Thank you Pulp for coming to Budapest, and I hope Hungarian fans can have a chance to see you again. (Zsolt)

I was there, along with a number of people from Yugoslavia and it was great. Not enough, but great. Kind regards, Dragana Jotic.

Ya know i don't use to write stuff like this but I have to say that they were great, so I want to add some entry on that gig. They started kinda late, with like half an hour delay, but that's ok. I did expect they'd play stuff like Disco 2000, but then I realized they're not into playing this song very much. So it started with sorted, wasn't exactly the same like on the album, Candida kinda changed some parts. then came Laughing Boy -  I totally noticed that people (along with me) were not familiar with this song, but then BCV came and that was soooo...even my girlmate who came with recognized it. OK, then Birds, Bed Show, Aged - maaan I so wanted them to play this one, then came Hardcore and that was, I'd say, the top of all the peaks, shivering just now when writing this, people almost died there, girl behind me was in such orgasmatic positions, Jarvis did these sexual moves when it came on "Oh that goes in there. Then that goes in there" part so I totally understood that girlie behind me. I Love Life was on next, didn't except this song to appear. Jarvis ended this one lying on the stage, being "waken" with Sunrise. And Sunrise this song in the end grades to such a stuff, but me hearing it live - nondescribable - they used lights to simulate the sunrise, nice, niiiceee...then break came up we had to cheer them back, Pulp of course did and added Trees, I Want You - old one good move, Babies. Then another pause and Underwear (god), Common People. This version of people was different like hell even i didn't recognize it at first, but that was only the opening part of that song, then it returned back to normal, so they ended the list like i excepted them. So after this one it was end for sure, Nick threw the sticks into the crowd and Jarvis' fag, that was soo funny i even laugh now when thinking bout it. Maynt sound funny now, but if you'd seen it.... (Thanks to Martin from Slovakia for that great review)

Just want to say thanks for the fantastic show in Budapest! It was the first time I saw Pulp live! And now I'm deadly happy! Hope to see them again! Thanks a lot! (Judith)

I'm a fan of britpop music from Yugoslavia. I went to the Sziget Festival only to see Pulp live. It was my 1st Pulp concert. I can say that it was GREAT!
I was fascinated by Jarvis. He is really motivating the public. He gives 100% effort. Also he is very talkative and entertaining. When a moth flew around him, he said: "Get away, get lost! I don't like moths. NO, not into the lights! Moths don't have great intellectual powers, you know. They don't do much, but eat clothes". Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Jarvis is a very nice person. I was to the Oasis gig 2 years ago. What a difference between the frontmen, Liam and Jarvis! The latter also took his time and learned to say 'How are you',' Thanks' and 'Good' in Hungarian. He lives through every song they play. The only problem was that the audience was not too familiar with some of the new songs which were not published as singles. I really enjoyed Weeds! It's so folkish and rockish! Both in one. This Is Hardcore was also great. The Birds in Your Garden was fabulous! It's so emotional. And intellectual. My only dislike was, that they played many downbeat songs, so the crowd was going into hibernation from time to time. But when Hardcore, Bad Cover and Common People sounded, the giggers exploded. I was between some Yugoslavians, Germans and Austrians. All uniting thru jumping & shouting in Pulp craze. Sunrise was really fantastic, and also the gig-ending Common People that put the audience on fire. Sadly, then the concert was over. I was a little disappointer not to hear Disco 2000 (which would surely drive the whole crowd mad) and my favorite The Night that Minnie Timperley Died. The concert changed my attitude towards the band. Until now I liked them. From now on, I love them and am eagerly awaiting their new stuff. (Palinko Oszkar)

Thank you, thank you, thank you Pulp so much for an unforgettable, unique, mind-blowing night at the Sziget festival in Budapest. The set-list was perfectly chosen, also playing older classics (and WHAT for classics) such as "I Want You" and "Common People". Thanks again guys and I hope you'll return someday! (Oliver Loksa)
