Hal Willner's Harry Smith Project, London Royal Festival Hall, 2nd July
It was just Jarvis who took part in this, along with Nick Cave, Van Dyke Parks, Bryan Ferry, Beth Orton and others.
It was a contemporary celebration of songs from a legendary 1952 compilation of American Folk Music, which, according to the programme, "is a national treasure and it's CD release was greeted by huge acclaim" (presumably mainly by those that could afford the £80 price tag). The tracks on the compilation are original 78rpm recordings from the 1920's and 30's and the ones that inspired Jarvis were, I think, Clarence Ashley's The Coo Coo Bird and The Masked Marvel's Mississippi Boweavil Blues.
