Auckland North Shore Events Centre, 5 October

We arrived early at the venue to watch the crew set up the stage and all my friends and I were allowed to stay and watch the soundcheck. They played Underwear, TV Movie, Seductive Barry and The Fear. They all sounded amazing, but then it was our own private show so anything they played was fine by us. My friend and I were then given passes and taken to the dressing room to meet the band. They were all really nice to us, we mainly talked to Nick and Candida, but then they went back to the hotel so we went and got some food and got in place for the show.

Then it was show time, the venue had filled, the lights dimmed, and the opening of The Fear cut through the audience. Pulp appeared in the corner of the stage, the crowd went wild, and the first chord shuddered out of the speakers, bringing tears to my eyes and I realised that this is what I'd been waiting for my whole life. They played The Fear, Party Hard, 1st Time, Underwear, Dishes, Seductive Barry, Sorted, Babies, A Little Soul, Help The Aged, F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E., Sylvia, This Is Hardcore, Glory People, and We Are The Boyz. The middle of the show was brilliant. During Seductive Barry, Jarvis was prowling the stage like the sex god he is, ending the song draped backwards over the monitor panting, bringing the whole audience closer and closer to the ultimate simultaneous orgasm...when the first notes of Sorted ring out and I am wrenched out of bed with Jarvis to find myself standing with 20,000 people in a field. But the real surprise comes at the end of Sorted, when I hear a sound I cannot believe, my friend and I look at each other and break into giant grins, the moment I thought I would never see, Pulp are going to play Babies again, and god was it brilliant - making up for the fact that it and 1st Time are the only pre-DC songs played tonight. All the songs were brilliant, but the Hardcore songs had that extra something from the album that makes hearing them live just amazing. My favourite songs tonight were Seductive Barry and This Is Hardcore, they both just oozed coolness and sex.

The band were great, Jarvis pranced around like a man possessed, witty as always between songs, and we all forgave him for admitting he had forgotten his contacts so couldn't really see us. Steve is the best looking man on the planet, Richard is a rock star, Nick and Candida are the real backbones of Pulp while Mark is brilliant, he is so multitalented, at one stage he was holding his guitar and playing keyboards at the same time, although he later admitted that his guitar had sounded bad all night.

After the obligatory, marvellous Common People, Pulp returned for the brilliant glam stomper We Are The Boyz, confirming in my view that glam really is that cool. But then it is over, Pulp leave the stage and I am whisked away into the night. Only to meet up with the band later to fall in love with the cute, multitalented man in the corner. It was the best night ever." (Liz Bland)
