Imperial Festival, Oporto, Portugal, 1 July
After a few hours of countdown Pulp go on stage. A huge ovation was there of course. I guess the band were pleased with the Portuguese reception, the same way we were pleased to have Pulp in Portugal for the first time. They played almost the entire new album plus some obvious hits such as Common People, perhaps the highlight of their performance. The band looked very much glamorous on stage, quite rare these days. Of course I prefer the older songs but there was no doubt that it was a great performance.
Too bad for the weather; 18 degrees and serious rain threatening. As I told you, this festival was sponsored by a famous Portuguese beer, Imperial, so I guess everything was too perfect: fascinating music (Nick Cave was brilliant too), very cool beer and girls, lots of them. Too bad I did not get the chance to meet Mr Cocker. I sure am looking forward to seeing Pulp live indoors. I hope I have given you an idea of my day out at the festival, great regards from Mario Sa
