LEEDS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 5th-20th October 2000

Mark's programmes

Saturday 7 - Ken Jacobs 1
A three programme retrospective of films by the American Ken Jacobs, whose
film "Little Stabs At Happiness" inspired the name for the club. The first
screening includes films of Jacobs home and family including the 3D "Globe"
with it's x-rated soundtrack of "The Sensuous Woman".

Sunday 8 -  Brief History of UK Avant-Garde & John Smith In Person
One programme of great British films from the 60s & 70s and a one-man
show introduced by John Smith, who taught Jarvis on the St Martin's College
film course. Smith certainly made an impact on young Cocker, and his style
is quite blatantly ripped-off in the documentary footage for "Do You
Remember The First Time ?" and "F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.I.V.E.".

Tuesday 10 - Little Stabs At Happiness, Hi-Fi Club
Mark, Gregory and Ben's regular ICA film and music club makes it's first
trip to the north. You know the score - Quiet Music, Films, Loud Music and Dancing. The feature
film is LSAH box office hit "Fahrenheit 451" by Francois Truffaut (1966),
alongside the weird shorts by Manuel De Landa, Charles Levine and our
favourite Owen Land (formerly known as George Landow).

Friday 13 - Ken Jacobs 2 & Ken Jacobs 3
Including the legendary "Tom, Tom The Piper's Son" and other films about
space and time.

Sunday 15 - Tale of A Visionary 1 & 2
Two programmes of short films by Japanese avant-garde poet and theatre
director Shuji Terayama, including his controversial "Emperor Tomato
Ketchup"

Thursday 19 - The Visions of Clementi
Two psychedelic diary films by the actor Pierre Clementi, who died last
December. Clementi starred in many European art film faves like Belle De
Jour, Porcile and The Conformist. His appearance in the nutty Sweet Movie is
also screening in the festival.

**These films by Clementi will also be shown at the ICA in London in November (date tbc). The films of Terayama will also be screened at Brighton Cinematheque (19th October), Bristol Cube (5th November) and London ICA (date tbc)
