PULP PEOPLE Back Issues

This is a list of the newsletters sent out from Pulp People's conception in 1992 until the present day. We've sent out lots of other things, details of which will be added shortly. I have some spares of later issues, which are available for free but you must send an A5 (or A4 for multiple copies) sae plus one stamp (1st or 2nd class) per issue. Send saes to: Pulp People, PO Box 87, Sheffield, S11 8WJ, UK. NB: Do not send anything until April 2003 - the site is closed until then.
Issue 1: 8 July 1992

A5 photocopied sheet: "Welcome to the first. Lots of love to you all. Letters from Bulgaria on orange spandex make it all worthwhile.." Written by Russell and listing the legendary Halifax Piece Hall concert.

 


Issue 2: July 1992

A4 photocopied sheet. The Caff 7", new recordings (Babies / My Legendary Girlfriend / Styloroc / Sheffield Sex City...), penpals and brief biographies of the group.


 

Issue 3: October 1992

Folded A4 sheet. The first issue Mark wrote: "Hi! this is your president speaking. My name's Mark and I look after the fan club and take care of the guys when they do concerts and all that...". New single "Babies", tour dates, old Pulp records, pen pals, Pulp's first forays into Europe, competition, T shirts (£6!).


Issue 4: December 1992

Folded A4 sheet. Christmas concerts, Black Session, Europulp, T shirts, Christmas message from Jarvis.


Issue 5: February 1993

Folded A4 sheet.  Razzmatazz, tour dates with St Etienne, Pulp on TV and radio, more trips to France, T shirts.


Issue 6: May 1993

Folded A4 sheet. Came with a piece of Jarvis' trousers (really).  Reports on the St Etienne tour, Hit The North, John Peel session, TV, more live dates, penpals.


Issue 7: October / November 1993

Folded A4 sheet. Pulp sign to Island and release Intro. Lipgloss recorded ("It's sure to storm the charts!"), record Polnareff tribute song, plans for new LP, November tour dates, TV.


Issue 8: January 1994

Folded A4 sheet with insert message from Jarvis. New single, Do You Remember The First Time?, news of His 'n' Hers, Mark Radcliffe session, Jarvis and Steve start directing videos for other people


Issue 9: April 1994

Folded A4 sheet. Announcement of His 'n' Hers, Sisters EP, Spring tour dates, Do You Remember The First Time? documentary, Peel session.


Issue 10: May 1995

Folded A4 sheet. Common People, Top of the Pops, Heineken Festival, lovely photo of Candida on reverse.

 


Issue 11: July / August 1995

Folded A4 sheet. Mis-Shapes, Different Class, TV, Radio, Pulp fanzines, UK and European tour dates.


Issue 12: September 1995

16 page newsletter. The first proper newsletter format, with the arrival of Dr. Pulp, Russell's Guide to Swedish Suicide Victims vol 1, Pulp Parties, more tour dates, chance to win Russell's shades, Jarvis centrefold, bootlegs, small ads, Guardian pop quiz.

Issue 14: January / February 1996

16 page newsletter. New single, Something Changed (it was almost F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E.), Trainspotting soundtrack, Japan and European tour dates, Dr. Pulp, fanzines, T shirts. 


Issue 15: April 1996

24 page newsletter. European tour dates, V96, Pulp books, Countdown compilation, Lonely Hearts, Dr Pulp, Mark centrefold, letters, the first official Pulp website, hate mail from Jacko fans.


Issue 16: July / August 1996

16 page newsletter. European tour dates, fan club analysis, Dr Pulp, small ads, lonely hearts, more hate mail from Jacko fans.


Issue 17: Autumn 1996

24 page newsletter. Re-released Island singles, Second Class, website, Dr Pulp, stars in Their Eyes, Mercury Prize, F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.I.V.E, V96 reviews. 


Issue 18: Christmas 1996

16 page newsletter. Nick's first son Jackson on front cover. Jarvis on the Turner Prize, Dr Pulp.


Issue 19: Spring 1997

20 page newsletter. Russell Senior special. It's all starting to go a bit dark. 


Issue 20: Autumn 1997

28 page newsletter.  The first post Russell releases. Help The Aged, Jarvis at Rock Circus, interview with Candida, Dr Pulp, Russell producing Baby Birkin, questionnaire.


Issue 21: Winter 1997

40 page newsletter. Help The Aged. Baby Birkin, questionnaire results, Mark#s top 20 albums, Dr Pulp, Pulp pin ups, the La Monte Young tribute night, website, star letters, the start of Little Stabs at Happiness, Pulp take over John Peel. 


Issue 22: Spring 1998

16 page newsletter. This is Hardcore. Like a Friend, We Are The Boyz, photos of Steve & Jarvis is Tokyo, On the Road With Pulp pt 1, This Is Hardcore video, Top Tens.


Issue 23: June 1998

28 page newsletter. Summer Special. A Little Soul, photos from the book that inspired the This Is Hardcore video, interview with Richard Hawley, review of album launch party, Dr Pulp, Top Tens, Star Letters, On the Road With Pulp pt 2, European and Japan tour dates.

 


Issue 24: Autumn 1998

36 page newsletter. Jarvis' Journeys into the Outside, interview with Richard Priest (tour manager), Much Music, LSaH, Dr Pulp, archive, 20 questions, interview with John Currin, websites.


Issue 27: Summer 1999

28 page newsletter. Flux, Liss Ard dates, Polnareff tribute album, Born To Cry, Venice biennale, LSaH, interview with Mark "Scotty" Scott, guitar tech., Jarvis on Radio 2, Dr Pulp, the new official website (that's this one folks).


Issue 28: Winter 1999

32 page newsletter. New songs unveiled. Looper / ASI collaborations, Mark at the Whitney, reviews of Flux & Liss Ard, interview with Steve, rarities, interview with Roger, Production / Stage Manager.

28 page newsletter. First (and only) colour cover with new photos of Pulp. Interview with Peter Mansell, Mark at the Oberhausen Film Festival, interview with Julia, the Pulp Accountant, Best Pulp Songs in the world chart, LSaH.


Issue 30: Summer 2000

24 page newsletter. Live dates, Meltdown, LSaH, interview with Mel at Pulp management, Mark's Death Shorts, website.


Issue 31: Autumn 2000

28 page newsletter. Fan club concert, Edinburgh, Reading, Leeds reviews, Soundtracking, interview with the Swingle Singers, website.


Issue 32: Spring 2001

24 page newsletter. Interview with Pulp about the new album. Pulp all over the World, archive.


Issue 33: Summer 2001

A4 sheet. Bulletin with summer festival dates, new merchandise.


Issue 34: September 2001

32 page newsletter. New album details, interview with Richard Hawley, festival reviews, tour dates, discography additions, Pulp all over the world, letters.


Issue 35: November 2001

28 page newsletter.  Reviews, photos, competitions, transcriptions of interviews, lyrics, an interview with Mark, small ads, letters.

32 page newsletter.  Reviews, photos, competition, lyrics, an interview with Nick, small ads, letters. Comes with colour postcard of the group and Tate flyer about Mark's Warhol film programme.

Issue 37: May 2002

28 page newsletter. The free gift was the Bad Cover Version box that was also sent out to everyone on the pulponline mailing list. It features an interview with Jarvis, details of Mark's film activities, 'Gary Numan's' video diary, a short interview with Candida, plus an 8 page transcription of a video interview with Steve and Jarvis about the making of the last album.

Issue 38: August 2002

28 page newsletter. Free colour postcard of Jarvis.  It features an interview with Nick, live reviews and pics of the summer concerts,  competition, letters, Pulp lookalikes...

 

Issue 38

Issue 39: Christmas 2002

36 page newsletter, edited by Nick Banks. Free set of 6 postcards and insert of Auto reviews and pics. This is the final issue of Pulp People and It features lots of stuff from previous issues selected by Nick, including the best of Dr Pulp, a great piece by Russell Senior, Richard  Banks' On The Road with Pulp tour diary, the bit about Jarvis' crushed car being won by fan Bridget Booth, the bit about the Hardcore launch part...stacks of brilliant stuff we have produced over the years! Plus personal contributions from Candida, Mark, and Nick. All artwork was selected by Nick.
