PULP PEOPLE

Important Fan Club News

To those of you already familiar with the press release on the News page this will not come as too much of a surprise. Pulp People will be closing down all operations at the end of 2002 for the foreseeable future. Pretty tragic huh? Let me explain:

Pulp aren't splitting up, but they are taking unlimited time out to do other things, a desire which coincided nicely with the revised offer from Island, perhaps making it easier for them to say "No". As you know, the group have always had several non - Pulp projects on the go, and in a way this is an extension of that, but with no time limit for a return to the studio.

It follows that without a working group a fan club is of less importance - hence the decision to wind down. We have already decided not to renew any existing memberships or take on any new members, but all members, present or ex, are entitled to issues 38 (see below) & 39 - just send me an 33p (2nd class) / 41p (1st class) sae or 3 irc's (available from Post Offices) if you live abroad. Those of you still within your current membership after the final issue will be sent one or more Pulpy treats from the office, depending on how many issues you are still owed (get your requests in now).

With regard to the final issue, planned for Christmas 02, all members may request features - if there is a particular photo, review, question - anything - you've always wanted to see, or something you missed out on in an earlier issue, or anything you want to say about the whole Pulp People caper, contact me ASAP and I promise to try to include as many of them as I can. As for pulponline, the site will also continue at least until Christmas - we haven't decided its fate yet - more info on that will be posted on the news page and the e-mailing list as & when it occurs to me

In the meantime, here's what we were all about.....

Pulp People, the one, the only and the best Pulp fan club in the universe, has been in existence since 1992 when it was set up by Mark Webber (before he left to join the group - wise move).

and more specifically:

I've only been in a couple of fan clubs before & they were a very long time ago. As far as I remember one never actually sent me anything ever and the other one sent me some crappy stuff & a few news pages but I didn't feel I 'belonged' to it in any way or felt any affinity to anyone else in it or to do with it. Later, in my 20's when I found a group I was fairly 'mad' on, it never crossed my mind to join the FC, thought I'd outgrown stuff like that!! Ha! Look at me now I'm 'oh oh oh so mature!' Maybe alot of fan clubs are just publicity machines not really connected to the group or even run by fans. The whole reason PP is so good is because you make us feel a part of things. The reason why the tour was so special, apart from PULP being fantastic to watch, was like I said, it felt as if we were part of that too. It's not like just going to see a concert which is what I did before I saw PULP.  I suppose getting the mag is not as exciting as it was before you took over the website, though I still like having it in 'real' form under my nose, & there are always plenty of things not on the site. At the same time I prefer to get the news straightaway from the site or email so it's not really a complaint. (Toni Sutton, member since 1998)

Hi!! Received my first mailing from you this morning and it was FAB! Just can't believe I've spent all this time as a fan and have only just got around to joining, lol. (Harriet, member since 2002)

Hey, Thanks for responding.  That's one thing I'd like to compliment you on, is most webmasters take for ever to respond or never, but every time I e-mail you, I get a quick response.  Thanks again and keep up the good work! (Sam)

I've really enjoyed the fanclub. Thanks for everything :-) (Tim, member since 2001)

Thanks for the latest newsletter - an entertaining and informative read. The e-mail message service you provide is fantastic - up-to-date and informative (again); the Suede information Service could take a leaf or two out of your exemplary book. (D Rafti, member since 2001)

The best fansite in Britain (Tim Abrahams)

I love Pulp People and all the cool stuff you do for it so much, that I'll be in this club until you give up on it. (Jenny Ferrero, member since 1999)

Just wanted to say that I enjoy the updates you send - I don't know how big the fan base is, but your emails have the feel of being a personal correspondence to each and every one of us in the extended Pulp family. (Belen, Washington, DC)

I know, there has already some time passed, actually I wanted to write this just as the fanclub-parcel had arrived, but my internet connection broke down and so I had to wait such a long time, just to say: thanks!!!! The stuff is even more than great! After euphorically reading all the newsletters and scrapbooks, I read it all again, and then (guess what..) I read it yet again:). It's really a good thing reading the concert reports to get over the waiting for some new live dates to be set near Germany (*sigh* will they ever tour us again...?) and the quotes and....but i guess i don't need to tell ya, cause you probably know yourself how fantastic pulppeople is, eh?;) Thanks for everything (Charlotte Horn)

It is very kind of you to reply: I am always pleasantly surprised and enormously touched by your high
level of customer service, so to speak. (DR)

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I received your magazine, it is the first time I am reading this, and it is great!!..I don't know how to thank you! (Dimi, Greece)

Thanx for all your back issues of Pulp People - you do a great job, Sheffield´s coolest editor, well not just Sheffield's - Europe's! (Jesper Tillberg)

I just wanted to let you know that you are doing a wonderful job at letting everyone know the latest information about Pulp. It is nice to know that if I have a question about the band I can send it your way and get a response on the quick side. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, A True Pulp Fan, Jen

In the world of over the top websites you seem to have achieved a fantastic balance of coolness, content and usability, something that is quite rare these days.  Oh and helpful. (Steve)

It really is hugely rewarding being a member and I hope you know how much we love you! (Kev West)

Thankyou kindly for your most prompt response ... if only other sites had similar e-mailing policies (such as the BBC who have failed to answer my question regarding the lack of exposure Pulp (and Bjork) have received during their most recent albums...).Brilliant site, thanks, Chris

With the days of Pulp People sadly winding down, I must say how excellent you, Alex, have been to, us, the fans. I unfortunately never actually got around to joining Pulp People, but through your unbelievably rapid fire email replies I never felt out of the loop. With what other group and fan club would one fan's idea for an album sleeve actually be taken seriously and given a chance to actually be communicated to the band? Outstanding. Your service to Pulp fans is greatly appreciated, you deserve a great big medal. Ok, I'm done now. Thanks. David
